Maria Shriver, California's First Lady and Honorary Chair for the
CaliforniaVolunteers, reminds us that disasters such as wildfires, earthquakes,
winter storms, and man-made disasters are common in our beautiful state and can
happen without warning. She stated that 255 states of emergency have been
proclaimed in California since 1950; 27 major declared disasters occurred since 1989.
For these reasons, she encourages us to become familiar with the CaliforniaVolunteers.org website
and follow the recommendations for preparing for a disaster.

Caza News, March 28, 2008 p. 4)
